Natural resources are an important part of a state’s or country’s economy,and though Telangana has a rocky terrain and dry climate it has a good amount of natural resources.
Telangana has a good amount of coal mines that is excavated by the Singareni Collieries Company that is used in industries and thermal power stations. Telangana also has a good amount of limestone,bauxite and mica which help in other industrial purposes. Telangana earns 79% of the revenue earned by the top 5 districts!! Also,Ranga Reddy district has a huge deposit of granite and Mahbubnagar district with kimberlite pipe or diamond.Telangana not only has coal and limestone,but iron ore,feldspar,Quartz and many more. Telangana has more wasteland,less forests and richer mineral resources which helps it build mining based industries and has helped in the growth of the state.But,even though it is rich in minerals,most of the minerals are found in Hyderabad.Hyderabad’s northern districts like Adilabad,Khammam,Karimnagar and Warangal have a lot of mineral deposits. Even though mineral resources are important,a state needs to cater to the needs of the people,one of them is water. Telangana which is rich in mineral deposits,also is rich in the water bodies it has. Since then,to regulate the heavy floods,two dams,the Osman sagar and the Himayat sagar were built in the early 20th century.Also some other water sources include the Durgam cheruvu,Nizam Sagar, Shamirpet lake, Saroornagar Lake, Kinnerasani River, Maner River, Kakatiya canal,and the Mir Alam tank which also has a wildlife sanctuary. |
