As we learnt about the geography of Telangana, it will be a pity not to learn about its capital:Hyderabad!!
Hyderabad has an area of 260 sq. km and is located in central Telangana in Deccan plateau. It has an altitude of 1778 ft or 542 m and the highest point in the city is Banjara hills which has a height of 2206ft or 672 m.Hyderabad is 536 m above sea level and falls in the seismic zone 2 and is least exposed to earthquakes.
Hyderabad mainly has a rocky terrain with rock formations of more than 2500 million years old with gray and pink granites being the oldest in the world. The soil type is mainly red sandy soil with areas of very deep black cotton soil.
Due to the elevation of Hyderabad, the contour levels drop gradually from west to east which facilitates supply of water by gravity.

The Hussain sagar is a man made lake (built in 1562) which separates Hyderabad and Secunderabad(also called twin cities).
